Our visit to Lada’at Hashem in Pretoria

Last weekend, at the invitation of the Gordon family, Herschel and Shell flew to Pretoria in order to minister to the people of Lada’at HaShem and to celebrate Sid Gordon 60th birthday with him, with family and many friends. This Gordon's have established a beautiful but very functional ‘shul’ next door to their home in Pretoria.

It was there, on Erev Shabbat and Shabbat morning that Herschel spoke and taught on Parashat Massei while Shell provided musical support. Then on Sunday morning, Shell conducted a Messianic music workshop which she titled “Zamar”; a term relating specifically to the act of praising HaShem with music. She spoke not only about Messianic music, its history and the role of musicians, but also about the role of the artist, in general, in the kingdom of HaShem.

A powerpoint presentation was augmented by singing and demonstrations on her guitar -- with Herschel assisting in the demonstration of the various shofar sounds, Hebrew cantillation and the pronouncement of the Hebrew Aaronic Blessing. In the audience were professional musicians, some singers and one dancer.

The richness of the services was matched not only by the peace and unity that pervaded the gatherings, but by the outstanding hospitality of the Gordon family. Every meal was a banquet lovingly prepared and the accommodation was most comfortable. They could not have done more to make their Beit Ariel visitors feel welcome! Many thanks to the Gordon family and may Lada’at HaShem continue to grow in fellowship and in the love and knowledge of HaShem and His ways.
